Dermal fillers are injectable substances which contain hyaluronic acid (HA) held in a gel-form. They come in a variety of thicknesses to address a variety of facial concerns. HA is responsible for cushioning and hydrating areas such as the joints, connective tissues, the eyes and the skin. When dermal fillers are injected into specific areas of the face, they take effect in two ways. The first being a physical support, holding up the skin tissues. The second effect happens over time, as the HA gradually takes on water and acts to hydrate and plump the skin.
Your skin will be cleansed and then small injections of the dermal filler will be administered, using a cannula or a needle. Depending on the area to be treated, we may shape or mould the facial contours to help the dermal filler to settle in. When the treatment is complete, you may return to your daily activities. Some activities however, may be restricted, such as going to the gym or intensive exercise, using hot saunas or steam treatments and rubbing the treated area for at least 24 hours, post-treatment.
Prior to your treatment, we will apply a topical anaesthetic, for optimum comfort.
As dermal fillers offer an initial result, you will see an improvement immediately. However, you may experience some swelling and slight bruising in the treatment area, so we advise to allow a few days for this to subside. Once initial results are seen, expect a further improvement in the texture and quality of your skin, in the weeks after your dermal filler treatment.
Longevity of results will depend on the treatment you have undergone and the way your body metabolises the dermal filler itself. Many treatments however, can last many months at a time before another treatment is required.
Before we can determine whether a dermal filler treatment will be suitable for you, we will ask that you attend an initial consultation, medical history assessment and skin analysis, here at the clinic.
